Life Update: 41 Days of Marriage

It’s been a while since my last post, and for good reason.  I took a hiatus from posting because I was preparing to marry the wonderful and beautiful Kaitie Blades, now Kaitie James!  (If you want to see some more of our wedding pictures, taken by The Jacksons Photography, click here!)

We have been loving the first 41 days of married life in our new apartment in Granville!   It’s been incredibly satisfying to get into the swing of married life, and learning how to love each other even better.  Here’s an update on where we are in life:

-     I’m working 3 part-time jobs:  as a Director of Operations for, a Property Management Assistant for Cloverleaf Management, which manages Ramp Creek Homes, and as a Worship Assistant, leading worship once a month at Vineyard Grace Fellowship.   God has blessed me with jobs that I enjoy, with work that is teaching me new skills for the future.

-     Kaitie is a Digital Photography major at Columbus State, and has just launched a new website for her photography business, Kaitie James Photography!  We are both very excited for her to be doing what she loves for a living.  She offers high quality photography at very affordable prices, so if you would like to schedule a photo shoot, contact her on her website!

For the future, we have dreams of projects to accomplish, but largely, I feel God leading me to slow down.  In the Old Testament, when men would get married, they were allowed one year to devote to their marriage before they could be sent off to war:

If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married. (Deuteronomy 24:5)

I very much love that principle, and that’s why I’m taking it easy on the extracurricular projects such as blog posts, albums, videos, books, etc.   Kaitie and I are committed to having a strong, faithful marriage relationship that lasts in love, and the first year is very important.   We will see how God leads us, but starting out well and leading well from a grounded spiritual walk in our marriage is the priority to me, and that will likely mean delaying projects.  There’s no substitute for carving out time to spend together, and it already is a joy to do.  I believe that sowing that seed early will reap a great reward for our marriage in present and future years of our marriage.

OK, last thing – there are a couple events coming up I’d like you to know about!

-      I will be leading worship at Vineyard Grace Fellowship July 27 (6:30 PM) & July 28 (9:30 & 11 AM).  If you don’t have a church, and are local to the Newark/Granville/Heath, OH area, we would love for you to come and worship with us!

-      Also, I am doing a two hour set of secular cover songs for the “Rally in the Alley” at Newark High School, August 17th, 10 AM – 12 PM.  This is an outreach event where VGF and other youth ministries such as Young Life give out free school supplies and partner youth, particularly students at risk of not graduating, with ministries where they can get help & support they need.

I think that’s all I have – thanks for reading!

Happy Easter!

On this day, we remember that Jesus Christ was risen, just as he said:

Matthew 28

1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

10 Then Jesus said to them,“Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
